Kara graduated from the University of Colorado in 2001. She competed in the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics 10000m final where she placed 10th, and the 5000m where she placed 9th. Kara made her marathon debut at the ING New York City Marathon in 2008. She finished in third place, becoming the first American on the podium since 1994. In 2012, Kara won the USA Half Marathon Championships and competed in the London Olympics in the Marathon, placing 11th. Kara runs for Nike and lives and trains in Portland, Oregon with her husband, Adam and son Colt. She is a member of the Nike Oregon Project.
Adam attended Doherty High School in Colorado Springs and went on to run for the University of Colorado, where he won three NCAA track titles. After graduating, Adam continued to compete with a contract from Fila, running the fastest time for an American in 1999 in the mile (3:54.17). In 2000, he placed 13th in the 5000m at the Sydney Olympics, despite serious back troubles. In 2006, Adam took first at the USA Cross Country Championships in the short course (4 km). He went on to finish 6th in the short course race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Fukuoka, Japan. At the 2006 Prefontaine Classic, Adam finished third in the 2 mile with a time of 8:12.7; the third fastest 2 mile ever run by an American. In 2008, Adam competed in the US Olympic Trials in the 5k and 10k. He currently resides in Portland, Oregon with his wife, Kara, and son, Colt. Adam is the co-author of ‘Running the Edge’.
